Suffering Reveals What Truly Matters Most
Suffering Reveals What Truly Matters Most
When life is comfortable, it’s easy to let our hearts drift toward distractions and lesser loves. But when suffering comes—whether through loss, disappointment, or hardship—it has a way of stripping away what is superficial and exposing our deepest needs. In these moments, we are confronted with the reality that our hope and joy cannot be anchored in circumstances, possessions, or even relationships, but only in Christ Himself.
God does not waste our pain. If we allow Him, He uses suffering to reorient our hearts, drawing us closer to Jesus and giving us a new sense of purpose even in the midst of trials. The things that once seemed so important fade into the background, and we discover a deeper joy that is not dependent on what is happening around us, but on the One who is always with us.
Psalm 119:67 and 71 (KJV): “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.” “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.”
Reflection: What is one comfort or distraction that suffering has recently exposed in your life? How might God be inviting you to let go of it and find deeper joy in Him today?
