Our Achievements Are Nothing Without Christ

Our Achievements Are Nothing Without Christ
Paul’s words are striking; he calls his most impressive religious achievements “dung.” This is a powerful reminder that even our best efforts, apart from Christ, are worthless in God’s eyes. God is not impressed by our spiritual resumes, rituals, or accomplishments. What matters is being found in Christ, clothed in His righteousness, not our own.
This truth humbles us and keeps us from trusting in anything but Jesus. It frees us from the pressure to perform and allows us to receive the gift of righteousness by faith. When we let go of our need to prove ourselves, we discover the joy and freedom that comes from relying on Christ alone.

Isaiah 64:6-7 (KJV): "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities."

Reflection: What is one “spiritual achievement” or good work you are tempted to rely on for your sense of worth before God? What would it look like to lay this down and trust in Christ’s righteousness instead?
