Remembering the Truth About Our Past Without Christ
Remembering the Truth About Our Past Without Christ
Before coming to Christ, every person is spiritually dead, cut off from the source of true life, no matter how good or respectable their past may seem. The world often encourages us to look back on our “good old days” with nostalgia, but Scripture reminds us that apart from Jesus, we were lost, weighed down by sin, and unable to save ourselves. This honest reflection is not meant to shame us, but to humble us and deepen our gratitude for God’s mercy.
When we remember our past accurately, we see the depth of God’s rescue. We realize that our salvation is not about moving from “bad” to “better,” but from death to life. This perspective keeps us from pride and helps us approach others with compassion, knowing that we too were once in desperate need of grace.
Ephesians 2:1-3 (KJV): “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”
Reflection:
Is there a part of your past you tend to romanticize or minimize? How might seeing it through the lens of spiritual death change your gratitude for God’s rescue today?

This is such an important message for all us.
Amen !! The thief on the Cross was forgiven by Jesus. But, Jesus did NOT take the thief off that cross. There are consequences to sin!
