Guarding Our Focus: Resisting the Drift of Distraction
Guarding Our Focus: Resisting the Drift of Distraction
A distracted church is a powerless church. When gossip, politics, or personal crusades become the focus, the mission of pointing people to Jesus fades into the background. God calls us to vigilance, guarding both our hearts and our community from anything that would shift our attention away from Christ.
The effectiveness of the church depends on our willingness to lay aside secondary agendas and pursue the glory of Jesus above all else. This requires intentionality; choosing daily to fix our eyes on Him, to encourage one another, and to keep the main thing the main thing. Only then can we be a people who reflect His love and power to the world.
Colossians 3:2-4 (KJV): “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
Reflection: What is one distraction, big or small, that has been pulling your attention away from Christ and His mission? How can you intentionally refocus your heart and mind on Jesus today?
