Guarding Against Worldly Influence
Guarding Against Worldly Influence
The church in Pergamos struggled with the influence of the surrounding culture, which led to spiritual compromise. This is a cautionary tale for us today, as we must be mindful of how cultural norms and values can infiltrate and weaken our faith. We are called to be in the world but not of it, maintaining our distinctiveness as followers of Christ. By staying rooted in God's Word and seeking His guidance, we can resist the pull of worldly influences and remain true to our calling.
Romans 12:2 (KJV): "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Reflection: In what ways have cultural norms and values influenced your faith? How can you actively resist these influences and maintain your distinctiveness as a follower of Christ?
