Pride Begins in the Heart, Not the Headlines
Pride Begins in the Heart, Not the Headlines
Pride is not just a problem we see in the world around us; it is a deep-rooted condition within every human heart. From the very beginning, humanity has been tempted to put self above God, to define our own worth and truth apart from our Creator. This inward pride can be subtle—showing up in our desire for control, our need for recognition, or our reluctance to admit weakness.
True humility starts with honest self-examination. It means recognizing our own tendency to seek the spotlight, to want things our way, and to resist surrendering to Christ’s authority. Only when we see pride as our own struggle—not just a cultural issue—can we begin to lay it down and embrace the freedom that comes from bowing our hearts to Jesus.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 (KJV): “Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”
Reflection: Where do you notice pride showing up in your thoughts or actions today? Ask God to reveal one area where you are seeking your own way instead of surrendering to Him.
