Rebuking the Fever 7/29

Rebuking the Fever

Inside Peter’s house, his mother-in-law was sick with a great fever. This was a serious illness. The family did not panic. They brought their need directly to Jesus. They besought him for her. Jesus stood over the woman. He rebuked the fever, and it left her immediately.
Jesus has authority over sickness just as He has authority over demons. He is the Great Physician. He may heal instantly, through medicine, or by taking a believer home. Our ultimate hope is never in a treatment plan alone. Our hope rests in the sovereign God who controls every outcome.

We often make prayer our last resort. We call friends, search the internet, and worry first. Then we finally pray. God wants to be your first response. He cares about your physical needs. When a worry about your health arises today, what will be your first action?

“...And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her...” (Luke 4:38b-39a)

Prayer: Thank Jesus that He is sovereign over your health and the health of those you love.

Challenge: The next time a health concern enters your mind, make it a point to pray about it before you tell anyone else.
