Discernment in Tolerance
Discernment in Tolerance
Tolerance is a virtue, but it must be balanced with discernment. In today's world, tolerance is often celebrated as an ultimate good, yet it can lead to compromising one's faith if not grounded in biblical truth. The church in Thyatira was praised for its love and service but criticized for tolerating false teachings and immoral practices. This serves as a reminder that while Christians are called to love and respect others, they must also stand firm in their beliefs when faced with teachings or practices that contradict Scripture. True discernment involves knowing when to be tolerant and when to uphold the truth of God's Word.
Revelation 2:20 (KJV): "Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols."
Reflection: Consider a situation where you have been too tolerant of something that contradicts your faith. How can you lovingly address this issue while remaining true to your beliefs?
