One Accord in the Shaken Place 7/15

One Accord in the Shaken Place

Peter and John returned from prison. They reported the threats from the religious leaders. The church faced a crisis. They did not form a committee. They did not hire lawyers. They lifted up their voices to God with one accord. Their first response was unified prayer. They sought God together.

They did not pray for an easier life. They prayed for boldness to speak God’s word. They asked for courage, not comfort. They wanted faithfulness more than safety. Then God moved. The place where they were meeting was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word boldly. Their prayer preceded God’s power.

You often pray for God to remove a problem. You ask for comfort and ease. The early church prayed for God to use them in the problem. They wanted His glory more than their comfort. Is your first response to a crisis worry or prayer? What difficult situation can you stop trying to fix and start praying about?

“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31)

Prayer: Pray for boldness to represent Christ in your most challenging relationship.

Challenge: Call one other person and pray with them over the phone about a shared concern.
