The Grand Canyon of Sin 6/10

The Grand Canyon of Sin

The universal human problem is sin. Romans 3:23 states clearly that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. This includes every person, from the preacher to the child. We often compare ourselves to others, thinking we are good enough. But God does not grade on a curve. His standard is His own perfect holiness.
Trying to earn God’s favor by being better than others is like trying to jump the Grand Canyon. One person may jump three feet, another twenty-nine feet, but everyone falls short. Sin is the disease infecting every human heart. No amount of education, religion, or good works can cure it. Our best efforts cannot bridge the gap between our sin and God’s holiness.
We spend much energy trying to justify ourselves. We make lists of our good deeds and compare them to the failures of others. This is a futile exercise that leads only to pride or despair. Stop comparing yourself to other people. See your sin against the backdrop of God’s perfect standard. What good thing are you relying on to make you acceptable to God?
Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Prayer: Confess to God that you have fallen short of His glory and cannot save yourself.
Challenge: Identify one area where you tend to compare yourself to others to feel righteous.
