The Barrel That Did Not Run Out 6/18

The Barrel That Did Not Run Out

Elijah found the widow gathering sticks for her last meal. He asked her for bread, though she had only a handful of flour and a little oil. His request seemed unreasonable. But he was not being cruel; he was inviting her to faith. He promised that if she trusted God, her barrel of meal would not waste nor her cruse of oil fail.

The widow obeyed. She gave Elijah the little she had. And God was faithful. Every day, she found just enough flour and oil for that day's need. The miracle was not a one-time provision but a daily sustaining. God gave her what she needed precisely when she needed it. His grace was sufficient for each day.

We often want God to give us a lifetime supply of grace, a full roadmap for the future. Instead, He gives us enough light for the next step and enough strength for today. He calls us to trust Him with our small resources and watch Him sustain us daily. What is your "handful of flour" that you need to trust God with today?

“For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.” (1 Kings 17:14-15, KJV)

Prayer: Ask God for the faith to trust His daily provision instead of demanding a lifetime supply.

Challenge: Name one specific worry about tomorrow and consciously entrust it to God’s care for just today.
