The Crowd’s Chanting Voice 9/16
The Crowd’s Chanting Voice
Pilate offered the crowd a choice. He asked them to choose between Barabbas and Jesus. Surely they would choose the popular preacher over a bloodthirsty murderer. But the chief priests moved through the crowd. A whisper became a chant. A chant became a roar. They shouted, "Barabbas! Give us Barabbas!" The crowd made the popular choice. But the popular choice was eternally wrong.
A mob does not need evidence. It only needs emotion and a loud leader. Crowds can make foolishness feel fashionable. Crowds can make evil sound reasonable. We make the same choice every time we choose sin over the Savior. We choose Barabbas when we choose popularity over truth. We choose Barabbas when we choose bitterness over forgiveness.
Do not let the crowd make your decision about Jesus. The crowd will not stand beside you at the judgment. The crowd will not answer for your soul. One day, it will be you and God. The question will be, "What did you do with Jesus?" What crowd are you listening to that is pulling you away from Him?
“Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.” (John 18:40)
Prayer: Confess a time you followed the crowd instead of following Christ.
Challenge: Underline one verse in your Bible that reminds you to follow God, not people.
