The Son of Man’s Authority
The scribes and Pharisees accused Jesus of blasphemy in their hearts. They reasoned that only God can forgive sins. Jesus perceived their thoughts and answered them. He asked which was easier: to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Rise and walk.’ Then He called Himself the Son of Man, a title from Daniel claiming everlasting authority.
Jesus connected the invisible miracle of forgiveness to a visible miracle of healing. He did the visible so they would know He had authority to do the invisible. He spoke three commands: “Arise,” “Take up thy couch,” and “Go.” Strength rushed into lifeless legs immediately.
When Jesus speaks with divine authority, paralysis must surrender. Sickness cannot argue. Sin cannot hold the person He sets free. His voice still commands the same power today. What has He commanded you to do that you feel too paralyzed to obey?
“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.” (Luke 5:24)
Prayer: Ask Jesus to help you obey His command to you as immediately as the paralyzed man did.
Challenge: Underline one command in Scripture you have been avoiding and take one step to obey it today.
