Lord of the Sabbath 10/22

Lord of the Sabbath

Jesus did not end the debate with a story. He ended it with a declaration of His identity. He said, “The Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” He claimed absolute authority over the very day the Pharisees were trying to protect. He is the one who gives the rules their meaning and purpose.

Jesus is the Lord of all. He has authority over every tradition, every rule, and every day. The Pharisees thought they were defending God’s law, but they were actually correcting the Lawgiver Himself. Their system had no room for the Author of the system. We must never let our interpretations become more important than obedience to Christ.

Your life has many areas: your schedule, your money, your relationships. You may be tempted to tell Jesus, “You can be Lord over this part, but not that one.” But He will not accept a divided throne. His lordship is total. He is Lord even when His commands challenge your comfort or contradict your traditions. What area of your life are you struggling to surrender to Christ’s authority?

“And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” (Luke 6:5, KJV)
Prayer: Confess to Jesus one area where you have resisted His lordship.

Challenge: Say out loud, “Jesus, You are Lord of [name a specific area of your life] today.”
