The Messiah in a Messy House 7/28

The Messiah in a Messy House

After the synagogue, Jesus went to Simon Peter’s house. This was no palace. It was a simple fisherman’s home with stone walls and a dirt floor. Jesus walked in without warning. Peter had no time to clean or prepare. Jesus entered the ordinary mess of an ordinary life because someone inside needed Him.

Jesus is not afraid of our disorder. He steps into our broken families and our hidden struggles. He is not shocked by our past or surprised by our present condition. He often does His greatest work in the places we are most ashamed to show anyone else. He meets us in our reality.

We often try to hide our mess from God. We want to clean ourselves up before we let Him in. But Jesus invites you to open the door to your life just as it is today. He cares about what happens in your house. What messy room in your heart have you been trying to keep closed?

“And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house...” (Luke 4:38a)

Prayer: Confess the specific mess you have been hiding and invite Jesus into it today.

Challenge: Set aside 10 minutes to sit in silence in your home and consciously welcome Jesus’ presence.
