Arising to Serve
After Jesus healed her, Peter’s mother-in-law immediately arose. She did not stay in bed to rest or talk about her sickness. She began to minister to them. She served Jesus and His disciples. Her actions were not driven by obligation. They flowed from a heart overflowing with gratitude for grace received.
Genuine grace changes our desires. We stop saying “I have to” and start saying “I get to.” Serving Christ becomes a privilege, not a burden. We serve because we have been healed, not to be healed. Grateful hearts always find willing hands. This is the mark of a life transformed by Jesus.
Is your service for God fueled by love or duty? Do you see your Christian life as a list of obligations or as a response to grace? Remember what Jesus has done for you. His grace changes everything. How can you move from “I have to” to “I get to” today?
“...and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.” (Luke 4:39b)
Prayer: Ask God to replace any sense of duty with a genuine desire to serve out of gratitude.
Challenge: Choose one act of service you normally do out of obligation and do it today with a prayer of thanks for God’s grace.
